"Runaway Robbers" is an alternative control gaming experience that fully embraces a controller-centric approach. With a massive 3'x3' board adorned with over 14 meters of LED lights, dynamically mirroring in-game traffic in real-time, this unique game allows players to navigate without ever glancing at the screen. Utilizing 31 illuminated LED buttons, your team relies on your skills to manipulate traffic lights strategically, aiding their escape from pursuing police following a daring bank heist!
As one of two artists on a team of nine, I contributed to shaping the game's art style, which aimed for a charming yet simple look that would complement the physical map for 3D printing. The city map, designed by our team, featured key landmarks for players to use as reference points. I led the effort to 3D print and hand-paint these landmarks, ensuring they closely resembled their in-game counterparts, adding a tactile and visually appealing element to the experience.
This game was nominated for the Alt Ctrl GDC games award!
